THE
SHOP ON BLOSSOM STREET by Debbie Macomber Price:
$19.95
Three
dissimilar women, find friendship and support from Lydia,
the owner of A Good Yarn, a newly opened yarn shop in Seattle.
Each womans story unfolds in alternating chapters.
Through teaching and learning to knit a baby blanket, life-changing
decisions are made and the women and their families grow.
The shelves of yarn and beginning stitches are described
with such lucid, appealing detail that my fingers could
feel the soft textures and my eyes could see the multi-hued,
looping beginning stitches. A good read and knitting pattern
for a baby blanket to boot
a
wonderful tale to fill easy afternoons.

STITCH
'N BITCH: The Knitter's Handbook by Debbie Stoller Price:
$13.95
So,
you've tried learning to knit from a book before and just
couldn't really sustain the impetus to get to the point
of finishing what you started. Well, this contemporary tome
will show you how people used to learn to knit: public school
classes, social groups, friends who knit together; then,
you realize that she is suggesting that learning and doing
with a group, a "Stitch 'n Bitch", is the way
to finish projects and get tips for problems and just see
someone else finish a project similar to yours. The projects
reflect an interest in what appeals to young people, contemporary,
fashionable, and 'cool'. Find your bunch of knitters.

STITCH
'N BITCH NATION: 50 Hip, Even Funkier Patterns
by Debbie Stoller Price: $15.95
The
author found that knitters inspired by her first book
needed more information on how to make adjustments for
projects that would fit and flatter them, even if different
weight yarns and gauge were used. In this book, she works
through several simple patterns using new information
on gauge statistics, schematic drawings and other pattern
information youll need to truly customize any pattern.
Tucked in between the fresh and lively projects are snippets
about the SnB groups across the nation. Lots of color
photos, thoroughly illustrated with drawings and charts.

KNIT:
A Personal Handbook
by Melanie Falick Price: $15.95
Let's get those scraps of scribbled notes, sketches and
messy bits of yarn arranged neatly in this delightful notebook.
Open the purse sized hardcover to find a zippered plastic
pocket for holding needles or markers. Two cardstock pocket
dividers offer an address book-like inventory section, a
section of blank graph paper for creative diagramming, and
a reference guide including a heavy board needle gauge and
ruler. A great resource for knitters. Our everyday planner
tracks family and work, now we can get organized track and

KNITTING STITCHES A YEAR Price: $19.95
A
small format book with an interesting concept; learn a new
knitting stitch each day of the year. I am constantly amazed
at the number of different designs that can be created out
of simple knit and purl! Despite an extensive library of
knitting patterns, I found some here that are new and most
interesting. Not a project book, this primer teaches many
creative stitches and lists the pattern count, such as:
multiple of 6 +3 so that you can take a sweater pattern
and either use the design throughout, or on a section of
the front, back and sleeves. In this way you learn to devise
your own one-of-a-kind projects.

CELEBRITY
SCARVES
by Sixth & Spring Price: $24.95
It's
a toss up. Is this book a fun look at some top Hollywood
stars modeling their creation, or the creations themselves.
I think it's mostly looking at the stars, but their narrow
long scarves are very stylish now and so easy to knit.
A couple skeins of some wild novelty yarn and a set of
big needles and you can finish a 6 foot long scarf between
shots for you next movie or at least on a knitting

KNIT
CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS
by Gwen Steege
Price: $14.95
Another
in a series of shaped knitting books, this one carries on
with 19 Christmas stocking and ornament patterns. I really
like the pattern layout, charts, and special instructions
for the various ornaments and stitches that make all these
stockings unique. Knitted snowman bobbles, tassels, fur
stitches, felting, and embroidery are used with fun-to-knit
traditional cables, fair-isle, and felting. Nice charts
and instruction in a convenient table format help make knitting
these heirloom stockings as great a joy as Christmas morning.
